Who are we?

Founded in 2018, The Sikh Youth Association of South Florida (SYA) is a non-profit organization which aims to identify, address and raise awareness of social issues in our community. Drawing from our Sikh heritage, our mission aims to engage youth in exercises of leadership and community service while fostering friendships and building community relations. As an organization, we hope to inspire the youth to become open-minded and inclusive leaders who are active members of society.

One of our biggest projects is our Annual "A Race for Unity in Diversity 5K Run / Walk. The purpose of the event is to provide a family-friendly platform for people from different backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures and races to unite as a community. Our pre-race Circle of Prayer consists of religious and cultural leaders all over the community holding hands; it is the ultimate display of Unity in Diversity! Complete with ethnic foods, interactive cultural booths, and support from the local community, our event is fun and engaging for everyone! The proceeds of the race benefit the Town of Southwest Ranches College Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid to students entering college. In 2019, we had over 750 attendees and raised $10,000; in 2020, we had over 1,000 attendees and raised $12,000; in 2021, we hosted a virtual race that garnered over 100 attendees and raised $5,000. â€‹

Another one of our projects is our Annual Food and Clothing Drive for the Military Heroes Foundation, which supports military veterans in need. For the past three years, we have been working with this foundation and the Town of Southwest Ranches to assist our veterans and draw support from our local community to do so!
